Mehul B. Anjaria, Laboratory Director/DNA Technical Leader

Mr. Anjaria has over 9 years of experience in the public crime laboratory system.  He has worked for both the Orange County (California) Sheriff-Coroner Laboratory and the San Bernardino County (California) Sheriff’s Department Crime Laboratory.  Prior to joining HIT, Inc. on a full-time basis he served as the DNA Technical Leader of the San Bernardino County Laboratory.

He has testified as an expert witness on forensic DNA testing on several occasions.  Mr. Anjaria has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and a Master of Science Degree in Criminalistics.  For his Master’s thesis, he collaborated with Roche Molecular Systems, Inc. during the development of a novel technique for the streamlined analysis of mitochondrial DNA.

Mr. Anjaria is certified by the American Board of Criminalistics, has been trained to inspect laboratories seeking accreditation, and is qualified to audit DNA laboratories according to the FBI’s Quality Assurance Audit Document.

Blaine M. Kern, President/Forensic Scientist

Mr. Kern is a Founder and the President of Human Identification Technologies, Inc.  ­Before starting up HIT, Inc. Mr. Kern worked for the San Bernardino County (California) Sheriff’s Department Crime Laboratory for over ten years. He has significant experience in forensic science and is an expert in DNA analysis. Mr. Kern is familiar with multiple DNA testing platforms.  During the course of his career, he has testified numerous times as an expert witness in forensic science disciplines including DNA typing technologies.

He possesses Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Biology and Environmental Studies.  Mr. Kern is a member of both the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the California Association of Criminalists and has attended a multitude of specialized forensic science training courses.

Chantel Marie Giamanco, Forensic Scientist

Before joining HIT, Inc., Ms. Giamanco was the lead analyst at Spencer Laboratories, a private forensic DNA laboratory in southern California, where she worked on high profile cases for various public agencies. She also gained experience in mitochondrial DNA analysis while employed with the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from San Diego State University and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Forensic Science. In addition to her formal education, Ms. Giamanco has expanded her knowledge by attending workshops offered by the California Association of Criminalists and the American Registry of Pathology.

Kellie Fenesan, Forensic Scientist

Mrs. Fenesan brings nearly a decade of forensic science experience to HIT, Inc. She was formerly the DNA Unit Supervisor of the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory. Her experience includes performing casework and providing expert witness testimony on DNA analysis, crime scene investigation, and a variety of other forensic disciplines.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology from Tulane University and has completed graduate level coursework in biochemistry. In addition to her formal education, Mrs. Fenesan has attended many specialized training courses in DNA technology, statistics, and general criminalistics. During her career, she has been active giving presentations at professional scientific meetings and educating attorneys and investigators.
